Increased immunity in adults

Increased immunity to adults consists of a balanced diet, rich in vitamins and minerals. As a true “armed force,” the immune system starts from the stomach. Immigrants’ soldiers need good, nutritious nutrition. Researchers have demonstrated over time that people in deprived areas are the most vulnerable to infection and disease.

However, there are few studies demonstrating the direct link between food and the increase in immunity in adults. Many research has targeted animals, and the results have shown changes in the immune system that occurred with changes in diet. For example, it was found that, in laboratory mice, a low protein diet resulted in a deficiency in T-cell and macrophage counts, but also a decrease in the production of immunoglobulin A.

Few studies have also shown that nutrient deficiency – such as zinc, selenium, iron, copper, folic acid and vitamins A, B6, C, E – alters the immune system in animals. The impact of these changes in the immune system in animals is not very clear and the effect of the deficiencies listed above has not yet been established for the human body either. But research continues, especially on the side of micronutrients.

Selenium – People who have low levels of selenium in the body are at risk of developing bladder, breast, colon, rectum, lung, or prostate cancers. Researchers are looking for the ideal combination of selenium and vitamin E to prevent prostate cancer.

Vitamin A plays an essential role in fighting infections and in maintaining healthy mucosal surfaces, affecting certain T and B cells. Deficiency of vitamin A is associated with low immunity and risk of increased infections in the body. On the other hand, vitamin A supplements do not increase or eliminate T cells, cells responsible for the immune system.

Vitamin E – is very good for hepatitis B, putting the responsible antibodies to work.

Turmeric is an orange-yellow spice, which you most probably know from Indian recipes. Ayurvedic medicine has used it for its alleged antiseptic properties 2500 years ago. And, it has been shown that turmeric increases immunity, helping the body to fight infections.

How? Curcumin, the active substance in turmeric may increase the level of a protein (from the catechididin family) that is part of our infection control system. This protein has antimicrobial properties and has the ability to destroy various bacteria, viruses or fungi. Until now, it was thought that only vitamin D can increase the body’s immunity through this mechanism.
